Cannonized a saint by Pope John XXIII, St. Martin de Porres is considered the patron of among other things, African Americans and bi-racial people. He is the patron of the diocese of Biloxi, Mississippi, in the United States. St. Martin de Porres was the first African American to be cannonized a saint.
